Hannah and Hugh have been working together since 2005 when they were both encouraged to join inspire choir in Banff by their mutual singing teacher. From there a friendship was formed and not long after the pair were asked to lead the choir. Hannah and Hugh’s experiences with Inspire choir led them to perform all over the county and were fortunate to be asked to perform twice for Alex Salmond at official Government events. Inspire also performed at many more local events alongside performing with Keith Jack in the Aberdeen leg of his solo tour. Inspire also had a very successful tour to Paris under Hannah and Hugh’s leadership culminating in a performance to over 1000 people in the beautiful La Madeleine church. Inspire Choir also recorded their own CD which was incredibly popular within the North East communities.
Following their work with Inspire Hugh and Hannah were then invited to musically direct a production of Oliver! with St Giles Theatre Group in Elgin. This became one of St Giles’ most popular shows to date with it selling out the Elgin Town Hall on every night.
After Oliver! was so successful Hannah and Hugh were then asked to lead a Stonehaven based theatre group then known as Stonehaven Community Theatre.
Alongside running both Aurora groups Hannah and Hugh also work with Cornerstone Day Opportunities in Aberdeen teaching a performing arts programme to adults with learning disabilities. This is incredibly rewarding and allows them to stretch themselves further finding new ways to teach and create understanding within all realms of music and performance. This Christmas they have undertaken the task to perform a small pantomime with their Cornerstone group which has proved to be not only an incredibly ambitious project but also great fun, and a great learning experience for the adults they support.
Hannah and Hugh have also been part of the National Youth Choir of Scotland performing The Armed Man with Karl Jenkins in the Royal Concert Halls in Glasgow and doing two stages of the Ballet Rambert tour of Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light in Edinburgh and Inverness.
Hugh has also had the fortune to travel to Germany with NYCoS and will be travelling with them again in 2013 touring Eastern Europe.
Hannah has also toured internationally playing viola with the National Scout and Guide Orchestra in their tour to Estonia.
In conjunction with their work with the Aurora Organisation Hannah and Hugh also teach individual singing lessons in the Stewart’s Hall on a Monday. If you would be interested in taking lessons with either Hugh or Hannah please use the contact us page to send a message with your details and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
