After having so many talented children in Whistle Down the Wind in 2014 it became very important to Aurora that our younger members grow together and flourish, and so, Aurora Youth was born.
Just like all other sections of Aurora, the youth choir has a no audition policy. At Aurora we believe that music should be accessible for everyone, and with all of the activities that parents have to pay for nowadays we want to be able to offer a chance for children to get involved in something that is run just for them, by young people who will be not only their teachers but their friends. Membership is only £1 a week which allows us to pay for the venue we rehearse in.
The choir is aimed at children from 7-18 and meets on a Thursday evening from 5.30pm until 7pm.
In 2015, Aurora youth produced its first full scale musical, Lionel Bart’s world famous OLIVER! Oliver ran for 4 shows in The Stewarts Hall, Huntly to 4 near capacity audiences and was accompanied by a full orchestra. During 2016, Aurora Youth are working towards a musical showcase which will be performed later in the year with the aim of producing another full scale musical in 2017.
The youth company is led by Alicia Riddell and Auroras musical director Hugh Johnstone.
